Individual counselling in Langley, Surrey and online
Sometimes life gets heavy in ways that are hard to explain, even to the people closest to you. Individual counselling is a private, unhurried space to slow down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and find steadier ways forward.
I work with adults in Mandarin or English, in person in Langley and Surrey or online anywhere in BC.
People often come to me for help with
- Anxiety, worry, or a mind that won’t switch off
- Low mood, depression, or feeling flat
- Stress and burnout from work, caregiving, or both
- Immigration and settlement stress, loneliness or homesickness
- Feeling caught between two cultures
- Family expectations, guilt and setting boundaries
- Self-worth and confidence
- Career challenges and life transitions
How we’ll work together
We start with what matters most to you right now. Together we’ll look at the patterns underneath — how you think, cope and relate to others — and how your history, family and culture shape them.
I draw on Adlerian therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and humanistic and trauma-informed approaches, adapting them to you rather than the other way around. Alongside insight, you’ll leave with practical tools you can use between sessions.
“We are not determined by our experiences, but are self-determined by the meaning we give them.”
Why language matters
Some feelings are easier to say in your first language
For many people, it’s easier to talk about emotions, family roles, migration and identity in the language that feels most natural. You may be able to say things more fully when you don’t have to translate them first.
Speak in Mandarin, English, or move between both
Name family and cultural dynamics more naturally
Feel understood in the context of immigration and bicultural life
Skip the pressure of explaining every nuance from scratch
FAQ
Questions about individual counselling
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you’re working on. Some people find a handful of sessions helps them get unstuck; others prefer longer-term support. We’ll check in regularly about how things are going and what you need.
Is online counselling as helpful as meeting in person?
Many people find online sessions just as helpful, and they save travel time. You’re welcome to try either, or switch between them.
Can I mix Mandarin and English?
Absolutely. Many clients switch languages depending on the topic. Use whatever feels most natural.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No. You can book directly. Some extended health plans ask for a referral before they reimburse counselling, so it’s worth checking your plan.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.
